Delegation from the Municipality of Istanbul visits San Patrignano

Two days to study and understand the San Patrignano community, with the aim to reproduce the model in Istanbul creating a recovery center for addiction. It was an important visit that the community had, hosting a delegation of officials and public administrators from the Turkish metropolis both yesterday and today. Accompanied by Monica Barzanti, head of international relations department of San Patrignano, the representatives of the municipality of Istanbul met Antonio Tinelli, coordinator of the Corporate Committee, and Antonio Boschini, health director. Visited the medical center, childcare facilities, the study center and other various educational sectors of the community. They also used the occasion to talk with a young Turkish resident following the recovery program and hear his story.

“We’ve visited several countries around the world to learn and review centers and facilities dedicated to the recovery of addiction – said Nihat Macit, architect, Deputy Secretary General of the Municipality of Istanbul -. Our plan is to build a center for addiction and we are collecting data and experience from the structures we are visiting. Turkish culture is still characterized by strong family ties, something that helps to stem the phenomenon of addiction. But we intend to face and deal with the problem anyway. San Patrignano is certainly one of the most important that we have seen so far, both in type and the duration of the recovery program, also for the excellent success rates, 72%.
